Lukas on the Road

Shortly, discover the new blog of Lukas Pairon (Founder and President of Music Fund) recounting his impressions of the travels of the Music Fund crews to our partner schools.

Remember his messages from the Middle East and Africa, from may 2006 to july 2007.

" Olivier and I hope to go back home today, if at least the announced strike at the Ben Gurion airport is cancelled. I will be back in December, but then not with Music Fund, but with members of the music ensemble Ictus, who will teach Palestinian adolescents and children in the context of the Barenboim-Said Foundation workshop in Nazareth + give masterclasses to young composers and performers at the Tel Aviv University. Music Fund will be back in May 2008 for training sessions in repair of music instruments. We will then also bring an expert in wind instruments. "

Lukas (°1958) studied philosophy in Switzerland and later obtained a BA in educational and political science at the University of Paris VIII. He worked for several years as a researcher in the field of adult education and literacy programmes at the Unesco in Paris and at the Ministry of Culture of the Frenchspeaking Community of Belgium in Brussels. But at the age of 27, he changed his profession by becoming the artistic director of the contemporary music and dance programmes of the Flanders Festival. He left this festival two years later to found Walpurgis, a production house for contemporary opera, and thereby got closer to his first interests as a young boy: opera, theatre and music. It is in that period that he got acquainted with many of the musicians who would later create Ictus, since they were engaged as soloists to create the new music theatre pieces which Walpurgis produced. When Ictus was founded in 1994, Lukas was there and became its first director.

Since 2005 he also directs the organisation Music Fund (www.musicfund.be), an initiative of Ictus and Oxfam Solidarity.
