Nazareth: Orpheus FoundationOrpheus concerns itself with music as a medium towards developing a more open society in Israel in general and in the Palestinian Arab community in Israel in particular. Orpheus wishes to tap into the transformative power of music, witnessed world-over, for promoting social change within Palestinian Arab society in Israel and Israeli society as a whole. The Foundation wants to give the chance to young students to become musicians by helping to set up music educational schemes for children and youngsters from the Nazareth area in schools of the region. Classical music as well as arabic music are taught here with special care to listening and musical experience. Several projects want to encourage mixed music ensembles gathering Israelis and Palestinians. Orpheus likes to cross borders by organizing events together with local and international institutions. Since 2002, workshops are given by the music ensemble Ictus in collaboration with the Barenboïm-Said Foundation and the Kibbutz Mizra. Some members of the school were invited in Belgium: 6 pupils participated to the closing concert of our 2005 campaign, accompanied by Duaibis Abboud Ashkar. Music Fund has built a very strong partnership with the Foundation over the years. Music Fund went to Nazareth a few times and donated instruments on several occasions. Nazareth: Cultural Centre for peace, Kibbutz MizraThe music school of the Kibbutz Mizra is open to both communities and wants to promote (musical) encounters between young Jews and young Arabs. The centre is directed by Uri Ben David and organises several common projects with the Orpheus Foundation. | Projects in partnership with IsraelThe Pictures![]() Don't miss the photo album of the first transport to the Middle East in december 2006. | |
