On 19th and 20th December, La Casa Encendida and Musica d'Hoy are organising a big collecting campaign of music instruments and money for Music Fund in Madrid. During this weekend there will be many concerts as well as presentations of local instrument technicians at La Casa Encendida, Ronda de Valencia 2, Madrid. Free concerts will be given by soloists of the ensemble Ictus, as well as by musicians from the Barenboim-Said Foundation, pianist Horacio Lavandera, the Trio Arbos, and soprano Pilar Jurado. The famous sing-a-song writer Jorge Drexler (Music Fund ambassador) will also perform together with (!) soloists of the Ictus Ensemble.
October 18th, Paris -> October 19th, Antwerp
Tens of pianos donated by Pleyel for music schools in Africa Manufacture Pleyel from Paris (www.pleyel.fr) has decided to donate the pianos to Music Fund (www.musicfund.be) which were slightly damaged in a fire in February, so that Music Fund can take care of their reparation and donation to their partner schools in Maputo (Mozambique) and Kinshasa (DRC). This nice gesture by Pleyel enables our technician trainees to repair them and to then allow children and young people in our African partner schools to receive beautiful instruments to play on.
Music Fund will pick up these tens of pianos with a large lorry in Paris on Sunday October 18th and then transport them to the partner schools from Music Fund in Kinshasa and in Maputo, by passing through Antwerp, where the pianos will be unloaded and loaded into containers on Monday October 19th.
In the partner schools in Kinshasa and in Maputo, where Music Fund organizes trainings to educate technicians-restorers, the organisation opened and equipped restoration ateliers, which can take care of the restoration of these pianos first, after which they are donated to the music schools.

Staff Benda Bilili is a great music group from Kinshasa. They will perform on November 27 at Wereldculturencentrum Zuiderpershuis in Antwerp. They play on guitars of Socklo, one of the guitar makers from Kinshasa, of which Music Fund sells guitars for a whole year, in support of this workshop.
