Presentation - Who are we? - Foundation
Music Fund was born from the extraordinary synergy and cooperation between the non-governmental organization, Oxfam Solidarity (B), and the music ensemble, Ictus. Then since 2006, Music Fund was created as an organisation, entirely independent from both founding institutions. Oxfam-Solidarity is well established in Palestine and supports humanitarian aid and structural development programmes through local organisations in the regions where Music Fund also wished to be active. Oxfam Solidarity is also reputed for its solidarity and charity campaigns. Since the end of 2002, the music ensemble Ictus sends out its soloists on a regular basis to teach at music schools in the Palestinian territories (Ramallah, Bethlehem, Nablus) as well as in Israel (Nazareth, Mizra, Tel Aviv). These music schools are well attended and play an important role as a cultural expression in times of crisis. Ictus is also involved in developing synergies with other pedagogical projects in this region thereby stimulating international solidarity, such as with the Barenboim-Said Foundation. Starting out from the needs of these music schools in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world, the idea came about to start collecting music instruments and thus, Music Fund was born. The first music instrument collection campaign in the Spring of 2005 was an enormous succes. Up to 1400 music instruments, consisting of guitars, violins, other string-instruments, windinstruments, as well as drumsets and pianos - some of them of high quality - were since 2005 donated to Music Fund. | ||
