Pianos

Brand: a well known brand as Steinway, Bösendorfer, Pleyel, Erard, etc ..., will be accepted even if the instrument is in a mediocre state.
Manufacture date: if the manufacture date is prior to 1945, then it will depend whether is in metal or wood. The metal instruments will be accepted but the wood ones will be refused. However, in case the wood one is a rare piece then we will take it.
When was the last time the instrument was tuned or played? If that is already more than 20 years ago, there is a big risk that the instrument would not be able to be tuned again.
Preservation conditions? In a dry environment: verify that the piano is not split (that happens often with wood). In a humid environment: verify that the piano has not been attacked by worms and if the felt has not been eaten by cloth moths.

Harpsichords

Same criteria as for the pianos. The Harpsichords are, however, easily accepted due to their reduced weight.

Concert Harps

They must be in a good status.

Violins, altos, cellos, double-basses

If the instrument has ever been attacked by worms, please put it in a plastic bag. If the instrument is in a bad condition, it won't be accepted. The wood holsters are not accepted, except for aesthetic reasons. Note : It is better a good instrument in a bad condition than the contrary.

Bows

They are accepted as instruments. They won't be accepted if they are broken.

Guitars

The wood guitars are better accepted than the triplex ones (they are recognized by their lightness). Instruments of less quality, but in good condition, can always be used for less ambitious musical projects.
THe neck must not be bended; otherwise the instrument can not be tuned or repaired.

Wind instruments

State of valves: they must close as good as possible ; the air must not escape the plugs.

Percussion (cymbals, bass drums, side drums, ...)

Wood: verify that the wood has not moved (the shells must be cylindrical).
Screws, strainers, rods: Verify that they are not oxidized. The holes must be the original ones. Must contain all the screws, strainers and rods (unless it is a famous brand as Pearl, Tama, Yamaha, Sonor, ...)
Cymbals: Make them sound. Verify that they are not cracked.

Pipe-organs, Harmoniums

The instrument is not accepted if it has been attacked by worms and/or moths.

"Ethnic" instruments

Ddjembés, derboukas...They will only be accepted if they are in good condition. The wood must not be cracked and the skins pierced.

Digital instruments

Plug it in and verify that the electricity flows.

Other instruments (triangles, xylophones, ...)

They are accepted if they are in good condition.
